A TIME FOR EVERYTHING

To everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven
A time to be born and a time to die, a time to plant and a time to pluck up that which is planted;
A time to kill and a time to heal, a time to break down and a time to build up;
A time to weep and a time to laugh, a time to mourn and a time to dance;
A time to cast away stones and a time to gather stones together, a time to embrace and a time to refrain from embracing;
A time to seek and a time to lose, a time to keep and a time to cast away;
A time to rend and a time to sew, a time to keep silent and a time to speak;
A time to love and a time to hate, a time for war and a time for peace.

President of the Cemetery Association, Michael Berman read this moving poem.

DON'T CRY FOR ME
Don't cry for me now I have died, for I'm still here I'm by your side,
My body's gone but my soul is here, please don't shed another tear,
I am still here I'm all around, only my body lies in the ground.
I am the snowflake that kisses your nose,
I am the frost, that nips your toes.
I am the sun, bringing you light,
I am the star, shining so bright.
I am the rain, refreshing the earth,
I am the laughter, I am the mirth.
I am the bird, up in the sky,
I am the cloud, that's drifting by.
I am the thoughts, inside your head,
While I'm still there, I can't be dead.

  Dear Friends, we are gathered here this morning, for a special memorial service to remember our loved ones--our departed family and friends.  We also remember and pray for the souls of the more than 1,200 Israelis, who died in the Hamas attack two years ago and let us pray for the release of the hostages taken prisoners on this date.
Some fifty years ago the Pythian Cemetery Association was formed with the objective of fulfilling the greatest mitzvah in Jewish law, the mitzvah of honouring our beloved family members who has passed on.  Among other great Pythians, I would like to remember Sir Cecil Labow and Ivor Schwartz, my mentors who taught Pythians to honour and respect those who passed on.  Through the gates of heaven, opened for a very short period every year, we invite the deceased loved one to watch over us mortals for the upcoming year.  In Hebrew this mitzvah is called KEVER AVOT- honouring our ancestors.

We know that anyone who is lovingly remembered has never really left us, as they will always remain dear to us in our hearts and minds.

I would ask our Vice President of the Cemetery Association, and Grand Chancellor of the Knights of Pythias, Domain of Quebec, to read this poem.

REMEMBER ME
To the living, I am gone,
To the sorrowful, I will never return,
To the angry, I was cheated,
But to the happy, I am at peace,
And to the faithful, I have never left.
I cannot speak, but I can listen.
I cannot be seen, but I can be heard.
So as you stand upon a shore gazing at a beautiful sea,
As you look upon a flower and admire its simplicity,
Remember me.
Remember me in your heart:
Your thoughts, and your memories,
Of the times we loved,
The times we cried,
The times we fought,
The times we laughed.
For if you always think of me, I will never have gone.

At this time, I would like to ask everyone here to include with your thoughts special prayers for the State of Israel, as we observe the second anniversary of October 7 massacre. We ask our dear L-rd to watch over Israel and His people and that there be peace in the world.   And we add this prayer for the brave members of the IDF who are fighting inHIS name.

He Who blessed our forefathers Abraham, Isaac and Jacob — may He bless the fighters of the Israel Defense Forces, who stand guard over our land and the cities of our God, from the border of the Lebanon to the desert of Egypt, and from the Great Sea, on the land, in the air, and on the sea.

Located in the city of Laval, just a short drive from Montreal, is our Pythian Cemetery. The Association invites Jewish members of the Knights Of Pythias of Quebec that are in good standing to join our cemetery association, and to reserve a single or double plot. The fees are extremely reasonable. The Cemetery is run according to strict Orthodox Jewish laws and is recognized as such by the Orthodox Jewish Rabbinate of Montreal.
